The yamauba of the katsura tree who came to borrow fire
What the record says
A yamauba lived in a great katsura tree and came to the hamlet to borrow fire; given a live coal, she carried it off on the palm of her hand. When a man did her an injury she fled, saying she would come back when the katsura had a thousand branches — so the hamlet cuts the branches before they reach a thousand.
