山姥 · Kotozuka, Nobeoka, Miyazaki · 1992
The yamauba of Kotozuka who lent dishes but never showed her face
What the record says
A yamauba once lived in a cave in the hill called Kotozuka. Ask her, and she would lend trays and bowls, but she never showed her face and spoke with her back turned. When a village tough grabbed her to force her to turn round, she made a sound like thunder in her anger and vanished. Afterwards the sound of a koto came out of the cave, which is why it is called Kotozuka, the koto mound.
