What the record says

Near Karasuyama in Shimotsuke there was a creature called the raijū. It looked like a mouse and was bigger than a weasel. In summer holes opened of themselves in the mountains round about; the raijū would put its head out of one, and when the cloud it was to ride arrived among the evening thunderheads it climbed on and flew away. In spring, people of the district hunted raijū. (From Tachibana Shunki's Hokusō Sadan, quoting Momoi Tōu.)
