What the record says

A kind of sprite, somewhere between a yokai and a spirit, that lives in old houses, centred on Iwate and found in Aomori, Akita and Miyagi, under local names such as zashiki-bokko, kura-warashi and usutsuki-ko. It is a small child with a red face and hanging hair, living in the inner rooms of old houses. While it is there the house prospers; when it leaves, the house declines. Sleep in its room and it may turn your pillow or press down on you from above, but it does no one harm.
