The snake wife and the needles in the rice
What the record says
A cooper said he wanted a wife who did not eat, and a woman who fitted the description came asking to marry him. He made her his wife, but in secret she devoured a whole bale of rice through a mouth at the back of her head. When he tried to drive her out she caught him in a tub and carried him off; he slipped away on the road, and left in the great tub a gourd and rice grains threaded with needles. The woman was a snake. She brought the rice home and fed it to her young and ate it herself, and the needles killed them.
