What the record says

Out at sea off the Kujūkuri beach in Kazusa, funayūrei often appear. Throw them rice balls and you escape harm; fail to, and a second boat appears asking to borrow a ladle. Lend one and they pour water in with it and sink you, so the ladle you lend must have its bottom knocked out.
