Each yokai page carries a danger rating from one to five. It is an editorial summary made for readability and for the comparison features of the site: a five means the records describe the creature killing or maiming people as a matter of course; a one means it does nothing worse than follow you home or lick the bath. The same goes for the comparison statistics kept for each yokai, which the Yokai vs Yokai format draws on.

None of this is measured in the sources, which do not rate anything. A yokai that is deadly in one province and harmless in the next, like the snow woman, gets a rating that reflects the balance of the records and a note that says so. The ratings are ours, and the articles say so each time they appear.
